Gull Highway

A Poem by Alicia Hayden

Gull Highway

It is known as gull highway.

The screaming flight paths

As territorial parents fight for the best nest site

To raise their chicks.

We need good access to the bins,

Not too many low flying aircraft

Preferably a disused chimney

(We don’t want our nest going up in smoke, again).

Their calls echoing through the night

A love song for the new age.
